MEETING MAYNARD
After our first encounter with "Evil Maynard" last year then reading about him on the internet, we were most anxious to find him this year. Hoping for a visit with one of his twins, imagine our delight at being entertained by "Professor Maynard", "Jungle Maynard" AND "Space Maynard" over a week-long foray into Disneyland!!! On our very first day in the park we went to the "Honey, I Shrunk the Audience" attraction and there at the podium welcoming guests to sit in the "cushy, squishy chairs" was Maynard!!! We waved from the back row and shouted his name to which he replied "welcome, crazy people in the back!" Afterwards, he was collecting the "golden goggles of happiness" and we were able to get pictures with him. It was amazing because we seemed to be the only ones around who knew who he was and he treated us like him own private audience, singing one of his crazy songs and totally entertaining us! It was awesome! The very next day as we were walking through Tomorrowland past the Astro Orbitor a very familiar voice came over the attraction's speaker - lo and behold - SPACE MAYNARD!!! My sister and her daughter, Kelsie, boarded a rocket after saying "hi" to Maynard and he came to their rocket and saluted them to send them off. When the rockets started up he got back on the speaker and said this squadron was being let by Commander Kelsie from the planet Yogurt then went into this long story about the Monkey planet! Afterwards, he came over to us again, signed Kelsie's autograph book, complete with illustration of "Space Maynard" and those words of wisdom...."Spam is tasty, yes, but it makes a messy hat!" Two days later we decided we had to find him again and after checking with other cast members discovered he was on the jungle cruise. We asked to be on his boat and soon here he came, complete with leaves in his hat, tarantula on one shoulder and alligator on the other! He was amazed we were able to locate him! He did the best jungle cruise schtick and awarded a kid he let "drive" the boat the "golden leaf of bravery" at the end. Once again, we seemed to be the only "Maynard" nuts around and he entertained us for at least 15 minutes. This guy is one in a million and makes the happiest place on earth even more special! Everyone should have the "Maynard Experience" upon visiting Disneyland! Michelle Carter Oklahoma City, OK |
