MEETING MAYNARD I first read about Maynard here on this page, and I thought it would be fun to meet him. I searched in vain for him every time I visited the park, and I almost gave up. But one fateful Halloween, I stepped inside the Haunted Mansion elevator and heard heard the famous "Like a haunted bowl of mashed potatoes--squishy squishy!" I was so excited! My sister and I nervously approached him after the room had emptied, and he agreed to sign our autograph books. But he did more than that-- he took us back up in the elevator and arranged for the CMs to bump around him so he could visit with us while acting as greeter. He took a long time to sign our books, even drawing a caricature of himself! Since then, he seems to be working whichever attraction I visit: "Honey, I Shrunk the Audience," Jungle Cruise, or, most frequently, Astro Orbitor. He always takes the time to wave or say hi. Be assured that Maynard is not someone Ryan made up, but that he is a very real part of the Disneyland magic!
