MEETING MAYNARD I have been an Annual Passholder at the self-proclaimed Happiest Place on Earth for many years. I met Maynard a few years ago on a routine weekend trip to Disneyland . This trip was special to me because I was going with my God- Mother who also loves Disneyland, as a matter of fact, she used to work as a cast member on the Haunted Mansion in the early 80's, so I thought she had told me all there is to know about the Mansion, but she had failed to mention maynard and his "Evil Twin." I thought it strange that I had never met him before, after all, the Mansion is my favorite ride in the whole park and I have been on it so many times that I was positive that I had met every cast member that worked on the ride, but I was really wrong! My God-Mother, Karen, and I went on the ride hoping to run into this "Kookie" character that she kept talking about, but we didn't find him, so she asked a cast member and she told us that he was on his break or something. She told us when he should be back and we both wanted to see him, so we waited in the foyer until his psyco-self appeared in the center of the elevator, talking jibberish or something like that. Maynard and my God-Mother recognized each other and I guess she asked him to put on a good show for me and did he ever!!!! Everything from his "haunted bowl of mashed potatoes" to his flashlight and finger puppets! He totally cracked me up!!!!!!!!!!!!! It was so hilarious. Anyway, after we went through the hallways, we boarded our "doom buggies" and were off into the realm of the unknown when good old Maynard came from behind us on the stairwell next to the buggies and scared the living daylights out of both of us by sneaking around from the back with flashlight and little plastic gecko and lightly whispered, "Bye-Bye,"' and off he went. By this time I was so into the ride with my God-Mother counting the ravens and other things we always do when we are on the ride together, I was really sad when the ride came to an end, but it wasn't over yet because guess who was waiting for us and the conclusion of the ride with his synical look and glaring expression? MAYNARD!!!!!!!! This time, however, the three of us just broke down in laughter when we saw each other and we sat there and talked to him for the next 10 minutes or so until he had to go elseware in the Mansion so we said our goodbyes and thanks and off he went to scare the churros out of some other unsuspecting guests. I would just like to take this opportunity to commend him for his efforts and his success on the Haunted Mansion and all the other attractions I am proud to say that I have encountered him on.
